I am looking forward to Quad City Symphony Orchestra's long-awaited Gala performance this weekend featuring pianist Emanuel Ax performing Beethoven and Mozart Concertos! It's such an honor to be part of an organization that is able to share world-class talent with the Quad Cities community. QC friends, if you don't have your tickets yet, what are you waiting for?! This is a can't-miss performance!

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Ax last night and in addition to being an incredible musician, he's an incredible human being. You can get a feel for his down-to-earth personality in Jonathan Turner's article below, but if you'd like to experience his kindness and generosity for yourself, you won't want to miss the Champagne Afterglow after tomorrow's concert!

I am back in the Quad Cities and I can't wait to hear the premiere of Jacob Banck's new Concerto performed by Ricardo Morales. Originally scheduled for our 2020-21 season, this premiere has been a long time coming, but I know it will be well worth the wait. Paired with Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony, this concert is not to be missed if you are in the QC Area!

Symphony Day is such an incredibly busy and exciting day for the QCSO, as the Alder Theatre is filled three times by over 6,500 students for a live symphony experience! Bravo to all of the QCSO Staff (Especially Education & Community Engagement Director Chelsea Sammons), Volunteers, Teachers, and Sponsors who make this educational event possible!

Congratulations to everyone involved in presenting this incredibly moving concert! So many people have shared with me how they adored the Collage of "Bach's Greatest Hits" paired with the Fauré Requiem. It's hard to believe there's only one more Masterworks Concert left in the 2023-24 season, but I look forward to being back in the QC to experience it in person!

It's such a pleasure to welcome the talents of Nathaniel Sullivan and Sarah Shafer back to the Quad Cities. The QCSO was fortunate to have them join us for our performances of two incredibly moving works: Jack Heggie's opera "Two Remain: Out of Darkness" in October 2022, and the world premiere of Jacob Bancks's opera "Karkinos" in February 2022. Their contributions were pivotal in bringing these profound narratives to life.A special thank you to Jonathan Turner for highlighting our Masterworks V concerts and showcasing the incredible artists the QCSO can bring (and welcome back) to the Quad Cities community. Their stories and talents enrich our cultural landscape in immeasurable ways.

I'm over the moon about our redesigned Student Program Booklet! 🐮🌕This booklet serves as a vibrant resource for our young concert attendees, offering them fun and engaging content that enriches their experience.Kimberly Gardner always writes fun and engaging content, and it's just a joy to design it for the digital page. Kimberly is on maternity leave, so we've had the pleasure of collaborating with another exceptional educator, Margaret Thompson, for this month's edition. If you're interested in seeing more, our Masterworks IV S@S Booklet is still available online at: https://lnkd.in/e_jaR4xg

Congratulations to the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, José Francisco Salgado, and KV 265 on the spectacular premiere of the film Liquify at this past weekend's concert! I hate that I could not be there in person to experience it in person because, as stunning as they are, I'm sure these photos don't do the experience justice!

🎶 Exciting News from the Quad City Symphony Orchestra! 🎶I am thrilled to share that the QCSO will present "Omar’s Journey," a concert opera based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning work by Rhiannon Giddens and Michael Abels on February 1 & 2, 2025! As Brian Baxter, our Executive Director, mentioned, "Omar’s Journey" lifts an important, largely untold story from American history, connecting us deeply to the humanity of those who came before us. This performance is more than just an opera; it's an invitation to start and continue meaningful conversations within our Quad Cities community.Mark Russell Smith, QCSO Music Director and Conductor, emphasized the world-class artistry of the soloists and musicians, whose dedication will bring to life the profound narrative and rich musical tapestry of "Omar’s Journey." The music, a beautiful blend of West African musical traditions with traditional opera, showcases the exceptional skills of its creators and is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. This performance is not only a showcase of musical excellence but also a reflection of our commitment to sharing stories that resonate and inspire. Join us as we embark on this remarkable journey, celebrating the transformative power of music to illuminate and enrich our lives.#QCSO #OmarsJourney #ClassicalMusic #Opera #LiveMusic #CulturalEvents #RhiannonGiddens #MichaelAbels #QCThatsWhere
