“When Georgie met Jose.” ❤️One of our patients, Georgie, was hanging out in the cafeteria after getting a new power wheelchair. He was crawling around — as he does to get around when he’s not in his chair — when Jose, one of our food service staff members, approached and Georgie looked up and asked:“Will you play with me?”Without hesitation, Jose dropped down on the floor to be on Gerogie’s level and played with him for a few minutes.“I mean, talk about love to the rescue!” Georgie’s mom, Demi, said. “It was so sweet of him to get on the ground and play with Georgie.” Moments like these remind us of what it’s all about. When we talk about Shriners Children’s providing “wrap-around care,” this is what we mean! From doctor’s appointments to grabbing a bite to eat in the cafeteria, you will be cared for here. Thank you, Jose, for your kindness and compassion!

We were thrilled to host students from the Crossroads Utah Area Health Education Center. The AHEC facilitates education for current and future health professionals to prepare them to practice in underserved rural and urban areas in healthcare systems transformed to lower costs, enhance quality, and improve outcomes. During their visit, students gained valuable insights into our comprehensive range of services and deepened their understanding of how the Shriners Children’s healthcare system prioritizes delivering exceptional care regardless of a family’s ability to pay. It's truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and dedication of these aspiring professionals, and we are confident they will make significant contributions in their careers. The future of healthcare is bright!

This week, we had the pleasure of celebrating Executive Assistant Kathy Kelly Huston and her 40 years of service here at Shriners Children’s Salt Lake City. From the beginning, Kathy has been a ray of light at our organization. Her commitment, passion, and unwavering dedication have made an immeasurable difference in the lives of our patients, families, and staff members. Whether she’s helping check patients in at the front desk, delivering mail to different departments, or even cleaning a bathroom or two, Kathy goes above and beyond to ensure our facility continues to run smoothly and effectively. “While she may reside in the administrative office, Kathy is the first person to jump in and help when needed,” Clinic Director Natalie Raleigh said. “She is the best Executive Assistant I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Her wonderful positive attitude and love for our patients and their families, our staff, and the facility shine through in everything she does.”We can’t imagine where we’d be without Kathy and are grateful that we’ve never had to find out! So here’s to 40 years of incredible service and to many more years supporting our mission of providing the most amazing care anywhere.

‘Tis the season of gratitude! This past Giving Tuesday, our staff members spent part of the day preparing and serving home-cooked meals for families at The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Primary Children’s Hospital. As a nonprofit ourselves, we are usually on the receiving end of Giving Tuesday, so it was great to switch things up this year and support a partner organization that does so much for our own patients! If you or your organization wants to get involved with the various Ronald McDonald House giving opportunities, visit https://lnkd.in/g2hJWY48 ❤️

Happy Halloween! Every October, our staff members work tirelessly to put on a Halloween Costume Clinic to create costumes for patients who use wheelchairs. The idea for the clinic all started when seating and mobility staff members heard from our incredible patients and their parents about the challenges they faced in finding costumes that were not only fun but also wheelchair-friendly. Others mentioned the feeling of being left out during trick-or-treating, watching friends and siblings run up to doors while they had to hang behind due to obstacles. Shortly after hearing these stories, the Halloween Costume Clinic was born! Now, our patients are not just getting costumes; they're getting an experience that empowers and brings joy. But the magic doesn't stop there! Neighborhood members have started coming out of their houses to catch a glimpse of these one-of-a-kind costumes during trick-or-treating, turning heads, and sparking conversations. The heartwarming response from the community is making Halloween a more inclusive and memorable experience for our patients. It's about more than just costumes; it's about creating a sense of belonging and joy for every child!Again, thank you to our team, volunteers, and Spirit of Children for creating wonderful Halloween memories for our kiddos! We hope you all have a safe and spooktacular Halloween! 🎃

Our team always goes the extra mile – literally. 🌟👟Last weekend, staff members James Knacksteadt and Dora Requena from Shriners Children’s Salt Lake City and Clint Hastings from Shriners Children’s Spokane, conquered THE Chicago Marathon! But they didn’t just run 26.2 miles; together, they raised $7,000 for Shriners Children's Chicago! During the last few months, while balancing their jobs and training for a marathon, these three were out fundraising because of how much our mission and patients mean to them. “Running a marathon is really hard,” Dora Requena said. “I don’t think I could have done it without running for something as great as the work we do at Shriners Children’s. Knowing I was running for our patients and families truly kept me going!”It is times like these where we feel fortunate to have entire teams made up of passionate and dedicated people like James, Dora, and Clint! 🌟
