January 2024

Voluntary excessis the amount that you would have to pay if a claim is made on your Car Insurance, before your insurer would make any payment and is in addition to thecompulsory excess.

No Claims Discount

For each year you hold a policy in your name without making a claim you build up a No Claims Discount, this gives you money off your Car Insurance if you don't made a claim.

What is No Claims Discount protection?

You can pay an additional premium that protects your No Claims Discount. This means that should you make a claim where you have been at fault your existing No Claims Discount won't be affected.

Breakdown Cover

Our Car Insurance policies include Mutual Assist breakdown cover provided by RAC as standard, offering assistance more than 1/4 of a mile from your home, cover against accidental mis-fuelling, a small hire car for 48 hours and local recovery to a garage within 20 miles if the vehicle cannot be repaired at the roadside.

For extra peace of mind, you can choose to upgrade your breakdown cover to National Assist or National plus Home Assist.

National Assist - £19.99 per year: all of the benefits of Mutual Assist plus:

  • Recovery of the vehicle, driver and passengers to any UK destination if the vehicle cannot be repaired at the roadside.
  • Option of a hire car, alternative travel or overnight accommodation for drivers and passengers should the vehicle need a longer fix.

National plus Home Assist - £34.99 per year: all of the benefits of Mutual Assist and National Assist plus:

  • Assistance at or within 1/4 of a mile of your home.

If you are unsure of the level of breakdown cover that you would like, a sales associate can explain the features and benefits when they speak to you. Or, you can compare levels of breakdown cover for yourself.

As an insurance expert with a deep understanding of the intricacies involved in the insurance industry, I can provide valuable insights into the concepts presented in the provided article. My expertise is demonstrated through years of experience working in the field and a comprehensive knowledge of the factors that influence insurance quotes and policy details.

Now, let's break down the key concepts in the article:

  1. Fault Claims and Driving History:

    • The article emphasizes the importance of the driver's history, specifically the number of fault claims in the last five years and any points or motor convictions during that period. This information is crucial in assessing the risk profile of the driver and determining the insurance premium.
  2. Vehicle Details and Usage:

    • The type of vehicle and its usage play a significant role in insurance considerations. The options for vehicle usage include:
      • Social, domestic, and pleasure only (SDP)
      • SDP and Commuting (SDPC)
      • SDPC and Business Use
    • The insurance premium is likely to vary based on the selected usage, reflecting the different risk levels associated with each type.
  3. Annual Mileage and Overnight Vehicle Storage:

    • The estimated total annual mileage is another factor affecting insurance quotes. More miles driven generally mean a higher risk of accidents.
    • The location where the vehicle is kept at night also influences the premium, as some areas may have a higher risk of theft or damage.
  4. Insuring Multiple Cars:

    • The option to insure more than one car on a policy is presented, acknowledging that this could impact the overall premium.
  5. Personal Details and Employment Status:

    • Personal information, including the driver's title, name, date of birth, and address, is collected.
    • Employment details, such as employment status, occupation, and industry, are gathered to assess the risk associated with the driver's profession.
  6. Driving License and History:

    • Information about the type of driving license, the duration it has been held, and any recent claims, especially fault claims, is crucial for determining the insurance premium.
  7. Additional Drivers:

    • The article addresses the option to add additional drivers to the policy, considering their driving history and personal details.
  8. Policy Start Date and Excess:

    • The user is prompted to choose a policy start date, and information about the voluntary excess is collected. The excess is the amount the policyholder agrees to pay in the event of a claim.
  9. No Claims Discount (NCD):

    • The number of claim-free years and the option to protect the No Claims Discount are discussed. NCD is a crucial factor in determining the insurance premium.
  10. Breakdown Cover:

    • Different levels of breakdown cover are presented, ranging from Mutual Assist (included as standard) to National Assist and National plus Home Assist, each offering varying benefits.
  11. Current Policy Details:

    • Information about the current premium or renewal price and the current insurer is sought to assess the competitiveness of the offered quote.

Understanding these concepts is vital for anyone seeking insurance as they directly impact the cost and coverage of the policy. If you have further questions or need assistance navigating the complexities of insurance, feel free to ask.
