Walt led his team to the NCAA Division II Tournament; however, they lost to Jerry Sloan. The very moment Frazier’s academics started to drop; thus, he considered forgoing college.

Later, his poor academics made him ineligible to play basketball; hence, he started working in his classes alongside his practice with the Salukis.

With Salukis, Walt learned defense and got to resume his basketball from the 1966–1967 season.
